Trio Update

From time to time it is important to step back and evaluate or take inventory of our lives and needs. After much prayer and consideration, we feel our attention and resources need to focus more on medical and other needs at the present time. Because of this, the Hillsview Trio is taking a sabbatical and will not take anymore requests for performances at this time.

We are finishing the mixing and mastering of the Christmas CD we started but will not produce the actual CD until a later date. If we are able we may make some of the songs available on line for downloading.

To all of you who have supported and encouraged us along the way, we'd like to say thank you. Your prayers are still greatly appreciated.

Trio Update ~ Clarissa

Greetings!!! January 14, 2009
( hope all is well )

It’s been awhile since my last update. ☹ Heaps of things have happened. Here are the latest news bulletins about life at our house.

The recording of our Christmas songs is completely done, and we now are in the process of critiquing it. It is not going to be available for awhile . Still, we plan on putting some samples out just as soon as things get finished up. Now it may seem to you that all we keep on saying is, “It’s almost done,” but, seriously; making a CD is no easy task. You could spend years making everything as perfect as perfect could get. And.......I think you get my point. Were you able to follow that?

We went to GYC in December. It was in, San Jose, California. It was a definite blessing. Any of you who haven’t gone before should certainly look into it. It’s going to be in Oklahoma this coming year. Pssst.....Did I really just say, Oklahoma? (Well, then, shh.....don’t tell anyone else) meanwhile, I’d like to start that again: This coming year, GYC well be held in, Louisville, Kentucky.
Well, well. What can you do with a memory like mine! Just imagine how forgetful I’ll be when I’m eighty! Second thought, actually maybe how about you don’t try to imagine. No need to rush things any more than is “naturally normal.” :P ☺So.... Our flight back from GYC ended upgetting canceled because of the weather. So, we decided to drive home with some friends. We rented a van, and left San Jose, California, at approx. 4:30 p.m. and drove the 20 hours back. Yes, I totally agree: flying is a faster means of transportation. I’m thankful that God kept us safe-which, just think; probably wasn’t a hard task for him to do, since I was not the one behind the wheel, lol. still, I had it so easy......zzzzzzzzzz.......I slept most of the time. ☺

Have I told you about our December weather yet? To say we didn’t get very much snow, ice, then rain, wind, et cetera would be a major understatement. We got a whopping two feet of snow, with ice sandwiched in-between. (The smiley face was left out of that last sentence for a reason) Let me just say I am so thankful we were able to use Peter’s four-wheel-drive truck. Indeed, It saved us a lot of stress. ( all though it still took hours to get into town and back ) The electricity was out for about 30 or so hours, and being we don’t have a wood stove, we are dependent on the furnace for heat. The temperature in the house dropped to 54 . We celebrated Christmas in the dark. And to top it all of, Juanita and I were also sick with the flu/cold type thing. In short, we had Christmas dinner at the church, and now I am happy to say that we are all well and functioning normally now.

Well, I need to go catch up on some homework. So until next time...be brave! And lets remember our duty and perform it without complaint. “May life’s greatest gifts always be yours- happiness, memories, and dreams.”

Smiles for you! ☺

Christmas CD Recording

Hello Everyone,

Looking at the title of this blog, you can probably guess what the main excitement is around here... Our Christmas CD Recording!!!

Since January we have been extremely focused on rehearsing and perfecting our Christmas music so that we could have a Hillsview Trio Christmas recording. We knew that it would take several months to even get started recording, and truthfully, it gets awful tiring singing the same songs non-stop- everyday, all day, and then all night in your dreams. But now that we've actually started, it is all worth it. All the time we spent, the discussions on how a song should be done, the things we gave up.... everything.

Wednesday was the day that we actually started our recording. We left early and headed to the recording studio, which this time was at our voice teachers house. It took a few moments to set everything up, get things going, warm our voices, and get caught up on happenings. But finally we were ready!!! The first song that we sang was one of our favorites, entitled "City on a Hill". The first cut was ruff, but that is normal for a first timer, no matter who does the recording. After the first couple of times, we started zipping through our songs, with hardly any retakes, which was really nice!

Since we only had four hours, we weren't able to record all of our songs. This Monday we will be going back to finish them off!

Please keep us in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Juanita

Happy Thanksgiving

We want to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving and share this verse with you.
"Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures for ever!" Psalms 106:1

As a family we have been writing down five things we are thankful for each evening during the month of November. We write it down on a leaf and tape it on our wall. Our goal has been to never repeat one that we had already done. It is amazing how much we can be thankful for. There are so many "little" things we found we take for granted yet they are so very important. God has truly blessed us this Thanksgiving Day and we pray He has blessed you as well.

PASO Cookie Bake

Be sure to come back and check out this blog entry as we will be adding more pictures!

This past Sunday, we got together with other PASO orchestra families to bake cookies for "Follow The Star". We had a wonderful time!

Each family brought their cookie recipes, pans, spoons, mixing bowls, and etc. We started mixing up the cookies, baked the cookies, and yes, tasted the cookies. When we were all done we had about 665 cookies. That's a lot of cookies!

These cookies were being made for the "Follow the Star" event. If you've never heard of it before check it out during December 5-7, 12-14. For a special holiday activity come check out this musical celebration and outdoor live Nativity event. It's a live changing moment:As you experiance the search for the Christ child and travel with the Magi from the temple to the Manger. And when you are all done be sure to stop by and enjoy one of those yummy cookies!

Cookies For Follow The Star

Last week, we helped bake over 4500 cookies for Follow The Star, which is a live walk-through nativity scene in Gladstone, Oregon. An estimated 3,500 cookies will be served to the guests, while the remaining cookies will be handed out in the volunteers’ sack lunches.
How do you make over 4500 cookies in just two days? Well, you roll up your sleeves, slip on an apron and hairnet, and dive into a full-size commercial kitchen, with all of its oversized kitchen utensils, and whatnots. That’s where we were on Wednesday morning, and Thursday. At the Gladstone Park SDA cafeteria. If you’ve never been in a commercial kitchen before, put your mind to work trying to imagine a mixer that can produce at least 600 big cookies per batch. Everything is oversized! Then, imagine all of the ingredients needed to make that many cookies!

I cracked 32 eggs for each batch. Do the math and that’s over 224 eggs. (Yeah, I was a pro at cracking eggs fast and clean by the time we were done!)
If you’re feeling sorry for me, you just might be surprised. I’m actually the one feeling sorry for you! Why? Well, because you weren’t there to join the fun, and, because you’ll just have to keep on dreaming about all of those big, delicious oatmeal cookies. Unless, of course, you stop by Follow The Star, December 5-7 & 12-14, 2008.
